NWA Crockett Cup Set To Return In 2019
An old favourite was announced at NWA 70...
The Crockett Cup, an old favourite of hardcore fans from the 1980s, will make a comeback at some point in 2019.
Shortly after managing Crimson and Jax Dane against the Kingdom of Jocephus (Shannon Moore and Crazzy Steve) at NWA 70 on Sunday night, Road Warrior Animal made the announcement. He didn't go into details about a specific date.
All that's known at this point is that the tournament will be promoted by Billy Corgan and the same folks responsible for the weekend's 70th anniversary celebrations. It'll also be linked with the Crockett Foundation, a service providing help to military veterans suffering from mental disorders.
The Crockett Cup previously ran for three years (between 1986-1988) and was a single elimination tag-team tournament. The Road Warriors won the first, Nikita Koloff and Dusty Rhodes the second, and the team of Lex Luger and Sting won the Cup's final iteration up until now.
It'd be guesswork to predict what the format will be for this reprise until more details are made available. Animal's history with the tournament is presumably why he was chosen to break the news at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds Arena.
