Pat McAfee Shoots Hard On His Own WWE SmackDown Commentary Debut

Nobody is being harder on new WWE SmackDown announcer Pat McAfee than...Pat McAfee.

Pat McAfee didn't think he did a good job of commentary on the latest WWE SmackDown.

The outspoken ex-NFL man told listeners/viewers on his Pat McAfee Show that he "stunk", but "has the chance to get better". That's quite the damning self-analysis; Pat has earned rave reviews for his colourful banter alongside Michael Cole on the show. It's also worth noting that WWE pretty much let McAfee be himself.

He didn't seem to be over-produced like most company announcers.

Lord only knows how long they'll let that go on, but Pat is hopeful of some structure anyway. He pointed out that nobody really sat him down before the episode to talk things through. That's a compliment - WWE obviously believed that Pat would smash it, which he did.

Weirdly, McAfee added that he "was scared to have too much bass in [his] voice" at times, because he didn't want fans to think he was trying to "dominate the call". Pat is mindful that Cole is the brand's lead commentator, so it took some time for him to get used to laying out every so often.
