The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer confirmed as much on Monday. When a Twitter user asked if the two-time AEW World Champion's blow-up and departure from Tony Khan's promotion was an angle, Meltzer rubbished the theory, adding that while some people hope it will eventually become one, the odds of this happening are slim.

Meltzer tweeted:-

Punk is currently in talks with AEW over a potential buyout for the remaining years of his lucrative contract with the company. This follows the events of All Out 2022 in September, when Punk verbally attacked the company's Executive Vice Presidents, Colt Cabana, and 'Hangman' Adam Page in a now-infamous media scrum diatribe.

Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks accosted Punk and friend Ace Steel in their locker room after the scrum. A fight broke out, resulting in all involved parties being suspended. The Elite have since been reinstated onscreen and off following an investigation, while Steel was released from his role as a producer.

Punk, meanwhile, is attempting to engineer an exit. Recent reporting suggests that AEW is causing the hold-up.
