REAL Reason Why A Shark Cage Is Being Used On Next Week's AEW Dynamite
Why the Eddie Kingston vs. Chris Jericho barbed wire death match ALSO has a shark cage in play.
With the 20 July episode of AEW Dynamite, aka Fyter Fest Night 2, to feature Eddie Kingston taking on Chris Jericho in a bared wired death match, one added element of this bout is that the rest of the Jericho Appreciation Society will be locked in a shark cage suspended above the ring.
In an update on this, the latest Wrestling Observer Radio outing saw Dave Meltzer reveal that the shark cage is being used at the request of Warner Bros. Discovery.
As per Meltzer, Discovery asked for this as part of a tie-in with the ever-popular Shark Week, which this year commences on 24 July. Happy to oblige this request, AEW President Tony Khan decided the best way to incorporate a shark cage on the show was in the Kingston vs. Jericho match as a way to keep the Wizard's fellow JAS members from interfering in said bout.
Shark Week first aired on the Discovery Channel back in 1988, with the initial intention being to raise awareness of shark conservation and removing the stigma so often associated with these creatures. Since then, Shark Week has grown and grown in popularity, with more entertainment-driven content - such as legendary Olympian swimmer Michael Phelps racing against a great white shark - becoming a part of this event.
