CM Punk could be on the verge of issuing an "explosive" response to his AEW firing.

The 44-year-old is yet to make a public comment on his split from the Tony Khan-helmed promotion, which was confirmed last week. Now, Sports Illustrated's Justin Barrasso reports that both sides are expecting a potentially explosive response from the Chicagoan.

Khan refused to comment on the terms of Punk's AEW departure during last night's post-All Out press conference. The AEW founder and CEO made the call to let Punk go himself, doing so after a unanimous agreement from AEW's Discipline Committee and external legal parties, who collaborated with AEW to investigate Punk's alleged backstage fight with Jack Perry at All In last month.

Barrasso writes that the Perry brawl wasn't the sole reason for Punk's sacking, though it contributed. Khan, Barrasso reports, "felt physically threatened" by Punk when attempting to get the 44-year-old to focus on his bout with Samoa Joe. Where Khan has previously been successful in reasoning with Punk in such situations, this wasn't the case here.

Punk reportedly had no chance of returning to AEW once eyewitness accounts of Khan's claims corroborated the situation. Khan commented during Saturday's Collision taping that he "feared for his life" during the incident.
