Report: Drew Gulak's WWE Departure "Not A Dead Issue"
Former Cruiserweight Champion may still be in negotiations with WWE.
Though Drew Gulak is technically no longer under WWE contract, the relationship between 'The Philadelphia Stretcher' and his now-former employers may not be over entirely.
This is according to Dave Meltzer in Figure Four Online's Daily Update for 17 May. He writes that while Gulak's WWE contract expired after Friday's episode of SmackDown and "the belief is that he is gone," it's thought that this isn't a "dead issue," suggesting the two parties could still be in talks.
Per Meltzer, the former Cruiserweight Champion is being represented by wrestling super-agent Barry Bloom in negotiations.
Saturday evening brought news that Gulak had been let go from WWE after failing to come to terms on a pay rise. Meltzer had previously reported that WWE isn't increasing anyone's salary right now, hence the hold-up in Rey Mysterio's contract negotiations and why they wouldn't budge with Drew. The news came 24 hours after Gulak had lost to ally Daniel Bryan on SmackDown.
Already a surgical technician before joining WWE, Gulak revealed himself an adaptable entertainer during his time with the promotion, though he had likely hit his ceiling as Bryan's on-air "coach." His skillset means he won't struggle for work once the sport's economic situation eases.
