During a recent appearance on the Start Today with Chris Cavallini podcast, Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik revealed that they both contracted COVID-19 back in December.

Rey detailed how he had moved his parents in with him to try and minimise the chance of them catching COVID, only for his mother and father to get the virus and pass it on to the housekeeper – who in turn unknowingly passed the virus to Rey’s wife Angie.

This was all a matter of days before the 11 December episode of WWE SmackDown, and Rey learned of his housekeeper’s COVID diagnosis before he arrived at Tropicana Field for that outing for the company’s blue brand.

Even though he, his wife, Dominik and Aalyah all tested negative at that point, Rey didn’t want to risk spreading the virus at SmackDown. Due to having a negative test result, the four were all able to fly home on the Saturday.

As Rey explained, he and Angie began to feel “really sick” on Saturday night, and they stayed away from everyone for two days before then receiving a positive test result on Tuesday 15 December. Dominik’s symptoms then developed on that Tuesday, and he tested positive on Thursday.

During this period, the entire Mysterio family and their housekeeper all quarantined separately, with Aalyah the only member of the household to not test positive for COVID-19.

Thankfully, all of those affected by COVID have now recovered, with Rey and Dominik both competing in this past Sunday’s men’s Royal Rumble match.
