Fantasy booking Cody Rhodes in the WWE Royal Rumble might be fun, BUT...

Dave Meltzer has literally laughed off the idea of Cody Rhodes appearing in the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble.

Speaking on today's episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer called speculation of Rhodes' potential participation in the 29 January WWE pay-per-view the "weirdest thing I've ever heard." It would have been incredibly difficult for him to sound more sure of the statement that Cody won't be in the 30-man battle royal.

This comes just 24 hours after Meltzer had published a rumour killer on any AEW involvement in the Rumble, following a WrestleVotes report stating that WWE were interested in opening the "forbidden door" with the men's match.

On WOR, Meltzer stated that while AEW president Tony Khan has consented to his talent appearing on other company's pay-per-view shows in the past (citing NWA EmPowerrr as an example), this wouldn't extend to WWE. This shouldn't need to be said, but apparently it did.

Fightful Select reported on Monday that Rhodes is currently working for AEW as a free agent following his contract's expiration in late December. This naturally prompted all kinds of wild speculation on his future, including the Rumble, which takes place in under two weeks.
