As per WWE.com, the SmackDown Commissioner fell ill during a family trip to Antigua last week. He was hospitalised for a couple of days, before being flown to a medical facility in the New York area over the weekend, where he is currently being treated with antibiotics.

McMahon is presently fighting a "massive infection," and will require surgery once this has been cleared up. On top of the illness, the write-up states that Shane is also suffering from a laryngeal contusion and trapezius and rhomboid strains, though it notes that these came as a result of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn's beatdown on SmackDown a few weeks ago, and may be worked injuries.

WWE are yet to provide a timetable for Shane's recovery, but this will likely become clear once he has had surgery.

Diverticulitis is an intestinal condition that can cause great discomfort to those suffering from it. Brock Lesnar's first MMA retirement came as a result of the condition, which forced the former UFC Heavyweight Champion to have a 12-inch piece of colon removed, and left him a visibly diminished fighter.
