Star-Making Upset Headlines AEW Dynamite: Fight For The Fallen
A strong night of AEW television was capped by a considerable main event upset.
Daniel Garcia scored the biggest win of his All Elite Wrestling career last night, upsetting Bryan Danielson in the Fight for the Fallen main event.
The bout had been set up in the wake of Bryan's stablemate, Wheeler Yuta, defeating Garcia to retain his ROH Pure Championship at Death Before Dishonor last Saturday (23 July). Danielson, who has been out of action with suspected concussion issues since June, willed Garcia to step up on yesterday's Dynamite special, having confirmed his in-ring return at San Diego Comic-Con last week.
And step up Garcia did. After proving his mettle in a series of intense, brutal striking and grappling exchanges with the veteran, the Jericho Appreciation Society man profited from Jake Hager's interference, forcing Danielson to pass out via Scorpion Deathlock for the finish.
Hager was hidden beneath the ring when he reached out to grab Danielson's boot towards the end. This opened the window for Garcia's victory. He celebrated with the 23-year-old afterwards, having potentially established himself as Danielson's next opponent.
Prior to this, Garcia and Danielson had wrestled each other once before, with Bryan defeating his young opponent via referee's decision in a 10-minute Dynamite match on 23 February.
