Surprising Ex-WWE Star Pitches Match With GUNTHER!
A former WWE and AEW wrestler wants to "fight" the current Intercontinental Champ.
Erick Redbeard, who's best-remembered for his run as Erick Rowan in WWE, has pitched a match vs. record-breaking Intercontinental Champion and Imperium leader GUNTHER.
The ex-WWE star has also spent some time in AEW, but likes the idea of a comeback on Raw or SmackDown sometime soon. He posted on Twitter/X: "I'll say it again. I want to fight GUNTHER". Some fans popped up to suggest Erick appears as a special one-off challenger on TV before WrestleMania 40.
Of course, there's no proof of interest on WWE's side, but stranger things have happened. Redbeard would likely go under his old Rowan ring name for the match, and it'd be a fairly easy piece of business to put together for Triple H if he's looking to keep GUNTHER busy.
GUNTHER defeated Jey Uso on Raw recently, but reports after the fact claimed he was actually set to lose the IC strap before plans changed. The Austrian powerhouse is currently around 620 days deep into his record-setting reign at time of writing.
A proposed match vs. Brock Lesnar has been scrapped due to fallout from ongoing allegations tied to the Vince McMahon lawsuit.
