The Disturbing Truth Behind Sister Abigail
The wrong kind of WTF.
Let’s weave through the knotty, kayfabe tale of Sister Abigail before we explore the potential success of this rumoured, imminent reveal.
Upon debuting, Bray Wyatt spoke of a ‘Sister Abigail’.
Referring to her mostly as “She”, to create an air of mystery, Wyatt in a vignette said “She” “taught me from a young age. She said you gotta get them before they get you. A rattlesnake’s skin’s the same colour as the leaves, she said. And we all understood her. She led us with love, but she taught us that the fires, well, they were our friends, too. The world is an evil place, she said. And we agreed. And I was there. I was there when she took her final breath. She pulled me in close, and she said ‘You’re the one’. She said they chose you long before you were ever in existence. And I understood what she meant.”
No f*cker else did, but in 2013, it hardly mattered. Wyatt was the next supernatural horror, the next Undertaker, and WWE fans went to the lengths of tracking and decoding these promos for cryptic clues.
“Her touch could save the world,” Wyatt said. “But her kiss burns it to the ground.”
In Wyatt’s words, the spectre of Abigail was, for a time, genuinely creepy. That she targeted Wyatt from a young age depicted her as a predator, that we hadn’t seen her echoed the awful, unknowable presence of the Blair Witch. Wyatt spoke of Abigail as a nurturing, benevolent presence, but the subtext indicated otherwise. Wyatt’s sadistic father mysteriously passed in a boating accident.
Was this Abigail’s way in to a mind she could control?
