The Muppets Nearly Returned To WWE For SummerSlam 2016
It was almost time to play the music, it was almost time to light the lights.
It's been nearly four long years since we've last seen The Muppets during a WWE show, and this upcoming weekend was going to finally break that dry spell.
According to PWInsider, your favorite felt puppets were going to make an appearance during SummerSlam weekend. Sadly, there was a scheduling conflict, and the two sides couldn't make it work out. There's no word if they were going to appear on the actual pay-per-view, or perhaps on the pre-show.
Depending on your view, this is either a blessing or a curse. Some people can get into WWE performers talking to the Muppets as if they're actual sentient beings, while others find their inclusion to be Wrestlecrap worthy.
Perhaps the biggest victim in all of this is Sheamus. As we discovered when The Muppets hosted Raw, he's a storyline relative of Beaker. With The Celtic Warrior struggling to be relevant at the moment, his family member could have spiced up his act a bit for the night.
While SummerSlam will be Muppet-less, it's likely they'll show up on WWE programming again someday. The company is steadfast in their belief that the product should be family friendly, so Kermit and the gang should eventually return to the wrestling world.
