The Undertaker has revealed that he believes that the Montreal Screwjob could've been avoided if he had been booked to face Bret Hart at Survivor Series instead of Shawn Michaels.

In an interview with ESPN, 'Taker spoke at length on the incident for the first time, explaining that he had been watching the match from Vince's office when Earl Hebner infamously called for the bell to be rung while Bret was caught in the Sharpshooter.

In the immediate aftermath 'Taker explains that he used his influence to quell tensions among his disgruntled colleagues, clearing the backstage area so Hart and McMahon could discuss what had just happened.

The Deadman also noted that he was so frustrated following the event that he had considered not showing up for Raw the following day à la Mick Foley, as he didn't understand why McMahon hadn't just booked him to face Hart, explaining that he believes that Bret would've had no problem losing to him.

"Bret would have dropped it to me and I could have dropped it to Shawn right after that. There was a different way to do it, but Vince had to cover his bases."

'Taker has been uncharacteristically active in the media in recent weeks, coinciding with the release of the acclaimed docuseries The Last Ride, chronicling the twilight years on his in-ring career, on the WWE Network.
