Drew McIntyre has admitted that "thing went off track" for him creatively in 2021.

The WWE star, who is currently poised to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title over on SmackDown, was one of Raw's top names when things started going awry. He told Newsday that some of the "Scottish stories" he was booked to tell fans during his feud with Bobby Lashley didn't really work.

It's hard to argue with that point.

McIntyre dipped into Scottish history to talk about everything from the Loch Ness monster to famous battles. Meanwhile, everybody just sort of sat on their hands, and it never seemed like such historical context fit the rivalry he was working opposite Lashley.

Thankfully, nobody was hung, drawn and quartered.

Drew also told the site that he recalls hearing some boos when he popped up on the big screen at Money In The Bank 2021. Totally aware of how pro wrestling fans can be, the Scot knew he had to change up some aspects of his presentation if he going to thrive again.

WWE's writers were getting just a wee bit carried away with the whole history thing.
