Update On Bret Hart's WWE Hall Of Fame Attacker
The cowardly "fan" has posted bond.
This year's WWE Hall Of Fame induction ceremony became the unlikely source of one of WrestleMania 35 weekend's biggest stories, as Bret 'The Hitman' Hart was attacked during The Hart Foundation's inauguration speech.
The assailant (whom we still refuse to grant undue publicity by naming) was carted out of the arena and arrested in Brooklyn. Now, his reported $1,500 bond has been met, and the 26-year-old amateur MMA fighter has left the Brooklyn Detention Complex.
He will return to Kings County Criminal Court today, where he'll face two charges of third-degree assault, one count of third-degree criminal trespassing, and interfering with a sporting event. The attacker is staring down the barrel of one year in jail for each count of assault, and a judge has granted an order of protection against him to Hart and a WWE security guard who suffered minor injuries in the melee.
As previously reported, the assailant had previously told prosecutors that it "felt like the right moment" to assault Hart. A group including Travis Browne, Davey Boy Smith Jr., and Dash Wilder quickly took him down on the night, and now looks set to incur an even sterner punishment in the courtroom.
