Drew McIntyre isn't set to return to WWE until next week's episode of Raw, where he will face off with Goldberg ahead of defending the WWE Championship against the WCW icon at Royal Rumble 2021, but the promotion actually hopes to have him available before that.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson reports that WWE officials have their fingers crossed that McIntyre will be cleared for this Friday's (22 January) Superstar Spectacle tapings at the Capitol Wrestling Center. The Scot has been away from Raw for the past two weeks, having tested positive for the virus currently ravaging the planet on Sunday 10 January.

Superstar Spectacle broadcasts in India (and potentially on WWE Network) on Tuesday 26 January. McIntyre hasn't yet been announced as a participant.

Though McIntyre is currently self-isolating, he has appeared on the past two episodes of Raw via selfie promo, touching on his seemingly asymptomatic battle with COVID-19 and the ongoing Goldberg feud. This week's episode also saw him represented by an impersonator, as actor David Krumholtz was recruited to mock the WWE Champion in a Dirt Sheet segment with The Miz and John Morrison.

After that horror show, it'll be good to have the real thing back.
