It has been variously reported this weekend that the WWE chairman is currently laying the groundwork to relaunch the ill-fated "XFL" project that went bust in 2001.

There appears, however, to be some indecision as to whether they should use the original name or make a clean break from the XFL brand.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer revealed yesterday that the 72-year-old, under "Alpha Entertainment", had trademarked XFL for merchandising uses.

It is now suggested that "VKM Ventures LLC" - another of his companies - has also made a play for "UFL", or "United Football League".

Wrestling News has learned that the trademark was filed by a law firm headed by Jerry McDevitt, the attorney who has represented Vince McMahon since the 1990s.

Under VKM Ventures, he has also reportedly trademarked the name "For The Love Football".

WWE itself has so far remained tight-lipped on the speculation, although little effort has been made to deny any of this weekend's stories.
