AEW President Tony Khan broke down how Chris Jericho's upcoming appearance on Steve Austin's Broken Skull Sessions came to be during a recent appearance on SiriusXM's Busted Open Radio.

Speaking with hosts Tommy Dreamer and Dave LaGreca, Khan said that he hadn't considered the situation a possibility until AEW's Chris Harrington let him know that this was something WWE and Jericho wanted to do.

Harrington brought it up with him, catching Khan by surprise, with the idea of one of his wrestlers appearing on a WWE production "giving him pause."

In the end, though, it was an easy decision for Khan (h/t Wrestling Inc. for the transcriptions):-

“But when he said it was Steve hosting the show, I didn’t have to think very hard about it. Busted Open is an independent show. I really like being on with you guys. I really trust you and these times we have together, and and I really feel that way about Steve. Even though Steve works for WWE and even though that’s another wrestling company that we compete with, I trust Steve immensely, and obviously, I trust Chris. Just like I would trust Chris to do a great job on Busted Open, I trust him to a great job with Steve, and I trust Steve as a great interviewer.”

Jericho's Broken Skull Sessions interview will be released on 11 April, immediately after night two of WrestleMania 37. As always, the show goes out on Peacock in the United States, and the WWE Network everywhere else.

This will be the first time an AEW-affiliated wrestler has crossed over into WWE programming since the promotion first came to life.
