Several references to Rey Fenix were edited out of this week's AEW Dynamite, though there was nothing sinister at play.

The Lucha Brother was originally pegged to face TNT Champion Cody on next week's episode as part of 'The American Nightmare's' new open challenger series. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW taped Dynamite assuming Fenix would be good to go, with the announcers making several references to the upcoming match throughout, though they were forced to make a bunch of edits upon learning that the high-flyer won't be good to go by next Wednesday.

An injury suffered prior to Double Or Nothing 2020 kept him out of the pay-per-view and will prevent Fenix from facing Cody as well, hence the changes. One slip-up did get through the net, however.

Cody will now defend AEW's secondary championship against Private Party's Marq Quen instead. Quen appeared to be injured on last week's Dynamite, suffering a knee problem while competing in the night's opener, though this was a work - and a tremendous sell job from the up-and-comer.

There is currently no word on when, exactly, Fenix will be cleared to compete again.
