Why Chris Jericho Lost The AEW World Championship
Is this the real reason behind Jericho's loss to Jon Moxley?
Chris Jericho lost the AEW World Championship at last Saturday's Revolution pay-per-view in Chicago, Illinois, dropping the strap in a heated main event with Jon Moxley.
It was a moderately surprising choice, given that 'The Painmaker' remains the promotion's biggest draw, though Dave Meltzer came through with a possible explanation on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.
Here's Dave's theory on the matter (h/t ewrestlingnews.com):-
“Jericho is doing an overseas tour over the Summer and because of that by losing now everyone would know that he’s losing, but if you wait until the next pay-per-view the tour that he is doing would already be advertised so people would assume that he’s losing the title at that one.”
This makes a lot of sense. Fozzy activities were always going to interfere with Jericho's AEW appearances and in dethroning 'Le Champion' in advance, AEW avoided the risk of a predictable pay-per-view main event weeks before the Canadian set out on tour with his metal band.
It'll be interesting to see how Jericho reacts on this week's episode of Dynamite, as he had been AEW Champion for the duration of the show's run. Moxley will almost certainly have a big-time celebration planned.
