Why WWE Pulled Chris Jericho From WrestleMania 2000 Main Event
The real reason Chris Jericho didn't main event his first WrestleMania.
Jim Ross discussed the real reason why WWE pulled Chris Jericho from a main event slot at WrestleMania 2000 on the latest edition of his 'Grilling JR' podcast.
According to JR, Jericho was replaced in the headline Fatal-4-Way by Mick Foley because some feared mixing it with Triple H, The Rock and Big Show would "expose Chris for being smaller than he actually is". Yes, that was genuinely the rationale behind shoving the then-Y2J out of the money spot.
WWE worried the Canadian might look tiny next to the hulking beasts he was sharing the ring with; forget the fact that Jericho ended up working pay-per-view matches with Triple H later that same year, or the fact that he faced The Rock in a lengthy series throughout 2001-2002.
Ross thought WWE's thinking was "so stupid" back then, and he still thinks that now. He believes Jericho took this as a slap in the face, and used such disrespect to motivate him.
JR added that putting Jericho on all the pre-show promotional materials only to replace him was "totally unfair and bad business".
Y2J worked a Triple Threat match with Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit at 'Mania 2000 instead.
