Why WWE's NXT TakeOver Plot Just Hilariously Backfired
Talk about your all-time backfires.
In a glorious, revelatory scoop blessed down from us by Super J-Cast, WWE has failed, spectacularly, to compete with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Allegedly, WWE booked the upcoming NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff show as malicious competition to New Japan's Royal Quest in London's Copper Box arena. There can be no other wrestling promotion on this planet. Only WWE.
And WWE doesn't even do wrestling. They "make movies". They also make the most haha-get-f*cked of mistakes.
Aghast by the mere hint of competition, the big daft bully made certain to kick New Japan while it was down, under the mistaken impression that it had shifted just 2,000 tickets, as advised by a spy in the relevant ticket agency.
"Dumbasses can't even draw a crowd. We'll show 'em."
Utterly contemptible capitalism, WWE didn't show 'em, because New Japan had contracted a second agency. Sales for Royal Quest combine to make up 5,000+ at time of writing. 5,000+ of the small, ardent fanbase likely to travel across the country to watch a niche wrestling product.
But that's fine! Cardiff is a sprawling, metropolitan hub, one with its own, not inconsiderable population...
... a population likely more interested in watching a derby rugby match contested by their hugely-popular team in an event that has drastically inflated hotel costs city-wide. So determined were WWE to spite the little guy that they were compelled to book the date without conducting any further research.
As revenge tales go, this is "so well-written"...
