William Regal's Son, Charlie Dempsey, Debuts On WWE NXT 2.0
Charlie Dempsey makes the jump to NXT 2.0 following NXT UK's closure.
Charlie Dempsey made his NXT 2.0 bow last night, appearing in a backstage segment with Andre Chase and the rest of Chase University.
Dempsey, the son of wrestling legend William Regal, was introduced by Chase as a guest trainer, having made an impression during the group's recent trip to the United Kingdom. Chase U student Bodhi Hayward then took the brunt of Dempsey's edict to "teach the class some moves", with Charlie refusing to break a hold even after securing a submission. This enraged Hayward, who told Chase that he shouldn't have brought Dempsey in.
Chase took control of the situation, telling Charlie that he was there to practice, not hurt Hayward. Dempsey retorted by claiming that Chase University were soft - and should read up on Billy Robinson.
Signed by WWE in January 2021, Dempsey initially wrestled under his real name, Bailey Matthews, making his bow at an NXT UK taping the following month. He became Charlie Dempsey that September, emerging as one of NXT UK's preeminent young talents, though it appears he has now crossed over to the United States arm of WWE's developmental imprint.
WWE recently announced it was shuttering NXT UK ahead of NXT Europe's proposed launch, cancelling several television tapings and releasing multiple talents.
