World Of Sport Wrestling Announces TV Deals Around World
WoS set for India, Africa, Poland, and elsewhere.
World of Sport Wrestling has announced via its Twitter account that its ITV television show will soon, rather fittingly, be airing across the entire globe.
The Tweet revealed the company has struck a deal with the Discovery owned DSport to air in India, as well as StarTimes for transmission "across Africa". Though WoS were not specific about which parts of the continent will receive their programme, the Chinese broadcaster have a heavy presence in sub-Saharan Africa, so it seems likely the show will reach markets in that area.
FightKlub, a Hungarian-owned station dedicated entirely to martial arts, will also carry World of Sport in Poland. French video website Daily Motion will bring the product "around the world".
The Tweet ended with a promise that details on a USA partnership will be announced shortly.
World of Sport, which carried British wrestling on ITV for two decades from 1965 to 1985, returned to UK screens with a one-off pilot on 1 January 2017. Last year, the cult classic returned for a whole season in July.
Though the nostalgic revival got off to a strong start, ratings gradually plummeted - not helped by a constant switching of time slot. At the moment, no second series has been announced, though the commitment to persisting with the product with a series of live shows and by bringing it to new audiences is faintly promising.
