Wrestling Is OBSESSED With Corruption (...And It's Got To Stop)

Wrestling's about magic moments and money. But not THIS kind of magic, and not Mountain Dew money.

It's time to have a word about spooky nonsense in pro wrestling.

The problem with talking about spooky nonsense in pro wrestling is that it often gets in the way of talking about the pro wrestling in pro wrestling, and no matter a) how loud the AEW crowds are for the meat of the in-ring or b) how hot WWE crowds get during promos (to build the matches they then can't be bothered with...), if wrestlers start leaking goo, teleporting or casting spells, that requires the same discussion as the show everybody else came to watch.

It's all the more jarring when a) and/or b) are prevalent, because the best of what both promotions do well brings out the best in their paying punters. Magic powers just bring it all crashing down to earth.

As of writing, Bray Wyatt's future with WWE has been cast into doubt after he missed a live event and it only took these few rumours swirling for Bobby Lashley to move to immediately try and set up something new for his WrestleMania match. As this goes to press, little else is confirmed, but in the event Wyatt departs, months of clue-following by his remarkably dedicated fans will again have been for nothing. Well, not nothing; WWE and presumably Wyatt himself made a fortune from the Mountain Dew Pitch Black sponsorship, but the tremendously successful White Rabbit campaign last year was there to sell pops, not pop.

Alexa Bliss got sucked back into the suck too, which could once again leave her in limbo. Her last programme cooled Bianca Belair considerably, and 'The EST' faces yet more of this idiocy on the Road To WrestleMania, but more of that later.
