Wrestling Legend Recalls Arguing That WWE's Women Weren't Paid Enough
This WWE icon argued backstage about fair pay for women in the promotion.
Mick Foley has revealed that he once had an argument with fellow ex-WWE man Jonathan Coachman about fair pay for women in the promotion.
The 'Hardcore Legend' told Renee Paquette and Miesha Tate on the pair's 'Throwing Down' podcast that Coachman was outspoken when word spread that Stacy Keibler didn't fancy a WWE return. Coach was "maligning" Stacy's name, so Mick went to town and explained the truth.
Foley didn't mince his words - he informed Coachman that the company didn't treat top female stars the same way as main event men. The ladies "didn’t have their travel paid, and they didn’t get their rental cars or hotels paid for" either. Further, they were still "expected to be great ambassadors" for the promotion without complaint.
Female workers also had to look flawless at all times, which came with unique pressures.
Mick, who had earned a fortune in WWE and been taken care of, didn't think it was fair of others to lambast Keibler for sticking to her guns and demanding better. Generally, he "just didn’t think [the number WWE offered her] was in keeping with what a 'Superstar' should be making".
