WWE are less keen for CM Punk to return to in-ring action than the man himself, according to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer.

Speaking candidly about the situation on the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer noted that the other former stars currently being utilised as well as the lingering ill-feeling between the two sides may hijack the hopes of the many that want to see him wrestle at least once more for the organisation.

He said; "I do know that WWE's pretty negative on the idea of Punk wrestling. More than I thought they would be, but they are. The idea is between Bill Goldberg and Edge and The Undertaker and people like that, they've got their share of guys like that. There's a lot of bitterness, apparently more on WWE's side than Punk's side, I thought that'd be the other way around but there you go."

Punk's November arrival on FS1 WWE show Backstage was a bombshell in the moment but didn't really break the internet or "change the culture" in the ways in promised in the weeks that followed. At pains to note that he worked for Fox and not WWE, the half rice/half chips relationship wasn't half as fulfilling for fans as it had once promised to be. Vince McMahon (or others at the company's top table) apparently seem to agree.
