In probably the most shocking Raw ending of 2014, Seth Rollins turned heel last night by attacking Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose with a steel chair from behind. Rollins then proceeded to stand with Triple H and Randy Orton, forming what looked like a new version of Evolution after Batista quit the WWE earlier in the show. The Shield breaking up had been rumoured strongly in the November 2013 to March 2014 period, but with the group since establishing themselves strongly as a face act, we had expected them to continue on a united front for a while longer. They had became the hottest act on the roster and have been one of the most essential parts of WWE television in the last few months. The long term goal is to have Roman Reigns as a hot babyface singles star. It had always been thought that Ambrose and Rollins would eventually turn on the Shield leader as a duo. Maybe that still happens. We will perhaps have a handicap match at Money In The Bank with Triple H, Orton and Rollins vs Reigns and Ambrose. What we could see happening is Ambrose turning the final screw on to Reigns. The fan reaction to Rollins turning is exactly what it should have been, loud boos and "you sold out chants." On further analysis you can't help but feel the situation was a bit illogically played out. Just a night previous Rollins was battering Evolution at Payback, he went as far to jump off a titantron on to them. Just 24 hours later he is joining them? Good luck to WWE explaining that one. You also had one severe spot at Payback in which Triple H clocked Rollins with a sheet of metal. It doesn't make much sense. It's undoubtedly good for Rollins in the longer term if he's going to run with Triple H and Orton. He's elevated by association and now stands out as the big heel to come from The Shield. That breakout role had originally been pencilled for Dean Ambrose, but Rollins has outshone him all year. You could just tell Triple H had became a big fan of Rollins for real, and is now set to make the star his latest pet project. What's your reaction to the heel turn? Was this a good way to reinvigorate the WWE product or an illogical rush to get interest in? Have your say in the poll below and comments...
