WWE And Stone Cold Steve Austin In Merchandise Dispute

More problems between WWE and Austin.

By Grahame Herbert /

WWE sent prowrestlingtees.com a cease and desist letter about a number of Steve Austin items, reports PWInsider. However, Austin has since taken to twitter and stated that the items will return. It is the latest apparent example of WWE and Austin being at odds with each other. Legally, WWE have the rights to Stone Cold Steve Austin merchandise. However, Austin obviously believes he has the right to sell merchandise with his likeness that isn't directly relating to his WWE character. WWE's move is likely to anger Austin. By independently selling shirts on prowrestlingtees, he was likely making a nice line of further income. Considering that WWE also recently snubbed airing Austin's podcast show on WWE Network, you'd have to guess that relations between the two sides aren't too great right now. Austin did deny any hard feelings over the Network decision to do Chris Jericho's podcast instead of the Stone Cold podcast, but you have to wonder if there is more to this story than meets the eye. WWE's recent actions are surprising, and aren't the actions of a company who wants to woo a top star back for one last match at WrestleMania 32. As the Austin / WWE relationship continues to falter, it looks more and more like we are all going to miss out on next year's dream comeback.
