WWE: Damien Sandow Cashes In Money In The Bank Contract (And Fails)

By Matt Aspin /

The Intellectual Saviour of the Masses Damien Sandow became only the second person to cash in their Money in the Bank contract and come up short last night after failing to defeat World Heavyweight Champion John Cena on Monday Night RAW. RAW opened last night with WWE's top cash cow yammering on about his match the night before at the Hell in a Cell PPV against Alberto Del Rio. In typical Cena fashion he claimed he had overcome the odds once again after being written off for the remainder of 2013 earlier this year with an elbow injury only to surprise the world by returning to action only a few weeks later. As the crowd showed their appreciation with "You suck" chants Mr Sandow's music filled the arena signalling the MITB contract cash in. Unlike most cash in moments though Sandow chose not to attack Cena after a long, gruelling match that would leave the champion vulnerable and thus a 14 minute match ensued with Cena scoring the 3 count after an Attitude Adjustment in the middle of the ring. Although many people - myself included - feel that Sandow would make a perfect heel champion it's no secret that WWE has continually buried the Superstar since winning the contract at the Money in the Bank PPV back in July and thus ditching the cursed briefcase could likely be the best thing that has happened to him in a long time. Where WWE decides to go with Sandow's character from here remains to be seen but a feud with Cena would be a great way to elevate him into the main event scene without having to sneak his way in so-to-speak with a briefcase cash in. It is likely the best and only way Sandow can be elevated and maintain his spot in the ever changing landscape of WWE's top tier.
