WWE Double-Act SPLIT UP On Raw
This pairing never really clicked, and now it looks to be over just a couple months in.
The Modern Day Wrestling God is apparently no more.
Baron Corbin lost a singles match to Dexter Lumis in quick order Monday night, his third embarrassment in recent weeks, having lost to Johnny Gargano last week and being eliminated from the Royal Rumble in 7 seconds.
Those humbling moments apparently were too much for JBL, who excoriated Corbin backstage, saying that fans change the channel when he's onscreen and that Baron had cost his Hall-of-Fame legacy all of its credibility. He added that he can't polish a turd, really driving home the gulf between mentor and protégé. Even if you missed that brief segment, Corey Graves made sure to bury Corbin on commentary, saying that Baron can't seem "to get out of his own way."

This likely means we'll see yet another reinvention of Corbin in the coming weeks. He's gone from a Lone Wolf, to Raw authority figure, to Sad Corbin, to Happy Corbin, to the current Modern Day Wrestling God gimmick. Given how many reboots Corbin has had, it's hard to believe that WWE is going to abandon him at this point.
But maybe he should take a holiday, and come back as something with a bit more staying power? Corbin has something to offer, but it feels like he constantly wears out his welcome and cycles through personae.
