Goodness gracious! (Sorry, wrong PPV...)

How EXTREMELY shocking of WWE to push Samoa Joe into contention for Brock Lesnar's Universal Title at Great Balls Of Fire. Not just because that PPV name still hasn't been revealed to be an elaborate silly joke, but because of the five competitors involved in the qualifying match, he was probably the one you'd discount first.

At least we now get to see something new and interesting in that match as it stumbles towards the inevitable squash job finish that's been on the cards ever since Lesnar's name was attached to the event.

Joe's victory was obviously not the only story in focus in Baltimore: there was the question of whether Bayley could marry up her babyface image with using a kendo stick, as well as whether Neville would reign forever and how loud the Roman Reigns boos would get. All compelling, all resolved in Extreme Rules, which - as extreme things go - was not extreme in the slightest. Chairs, sticks and cages do not make for extremeness alone. Especially when they're that sparse.

It won't go down as one of the more memorable PPVs of recent memory, but if it leads to Joe winning a title, a Dean Ambrose heel turn and the Broken Hardys, then it might be considered important in hindsight. Just don't bank on all of that happening...

So how did the Internet see it?
