WWE Hall Of Famer Rocky Johnson Dies At 75
Rest in peace to the WWE Hall-of-Famer.
Rest in peace to Rocky Johnson, who passed away at the age of 75 yesterday.
The Cauliflower Alley Club's Twitter feed made the news public yesterday, with the group's Brian Blair (a close friend to Johnson) stating that the 'Soulman' had fallen ill over the past couple of weeks.
The father of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Rocky was considered one of his era's most agile big men and started his career back in 1964, impressing with his sculpted physique and explosive blend of agility and power. Feuds with the likes of Jerry Lawler made him one of the Tennessee territory's biggest draws and Johnson was the first wrestler of his race to hold the WWE Tag Team Championships, with him and Tony Atlas defeating The Wild Samoans to claim the straps in November 1983.
Retired in 1991 and inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008, Johnson was a truly groundbreaking professional wrestler. Tributes started pouring in from around the sport as soon as Rocky's passing was announced and this will continue throughout the week.
We at WhatCulture wish to express our deepest condolences to Johnson's family and friends at this difficult time.
