Chael Sonnen will be meeting with WWE announcer Michael Cole on August 11 when the Smackdown tapings take place in Portland, Oregon. The meeting was set up by WWE talent scout Gerald Brisco and WWE's Senior Director of Talent Development Canyon Ceman, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Sonnen previously met with WWE during WrestleMania weekend in San Jose, but it was nothing formal. Chances are that WWE must have liked what they heard from the former UFC star because if they want a meeting now then there must be some sort of interest. Since Sonnen is 38 years old and has never wrestled a match before, if he does work for WWE he probably won't be in a match. He would likely be brought in to be a commentator since that's what his role has been since November of last year. He also recently worked for Jeff Jarrett's Global Force Wrestling promotion as a commentator. He actually did an in-ring angle during the show, but his main role is to be an announcer. All GFW talents are working on per appearance deals, so he's likely able to take a job with WWE if they offer him something. While Sonnen has never worked for a major wrestling company, he is a legitimate wrestling fan that has had discussions with different wrestling people on his "You're Welcome" podcast, including Paul Heyman. Since he's a well known name in sports and he's a fan of the business, it's easy to see why WWE has an interest. Whether it leads to a job, time will tell on that one.
