While Night 1 of WrestleMania 37 was largely a triumph, the second night of this year’s Showcase of the Immortals kicked off with a whimper with ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton.

That opener saw The Fiend – who previously survived being set on fire! – taken down with one solitary RKO after Alexa Bliss started to spout black goo from her forehead. It was odd, it was bad and this decision has seen some of event the biggest Fiend fans shaking their head in disbelief at what seems to be another major misstep for this once must-see character.

Now, in a report from Fightful Select, there’s word that Wyatt vs. Orton was the victim of a last-minute creative change.

As of last Friday, the plan was reportedly for The Fiend to get the victory at ‘Mania in a way that would’ve written Randal Keith off WWE TV for the foreseeable future. Instead, Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard were instrumental in changing the finish to this match over the weekend – which is the finish that we got, and the finish that ultimately led to Raymond James Stadium passionately booing what they’d just seen take place.

Several within WWE are said to be baffled as to why The Fiend vs. Randy Orton happened how it happened, and it’s not known what’s next for this pair or for Alexa Bliss – including whether or not Orton will still be temporarily stepping away from WWE action.
