The Rock has reached a level of superstardom that has far surpassed anyone in WWE history. Because of that, he can basically do whatever he wants on-air. This can lead to headaches for management, and apparently The Rock calling CM Punk in front of a live crowd after Raw on Monday didn't go over so well with the top brass.

PWInsider has reported that Vince McMahon and Triple H were upset with the phone call, as it was definitely not approved of ahead of time. They ended up sending word to Rock that his bit was going too long and to wrap it up.

Punk still has major heat with the company for walking out on them, and there's still a lawsuit in play regarding him and one of their doctors. Whenever his name has been brought up on TV lately, it's been in a very dismissive nature. You can only imagine the look on Vince's face when Rock tried to contact him.

We've seen in the past that Rock basically does what he wants when he has the time to show up in WWE. In Jan of 2016, management was also mad at him for talking to fans dressed up as Hogan and Savage in an unplanned skit. However, it's unlikely they'll "punish" Rock in any way for his Punk call. They need him far more than he needs them, so if they want him to keep showing up, they'll have to deal with his unpredictable nature.
