WWE & Netflix Working On Vince McMahon Documentary Series
WWE strike "groundbreaking deal" with Netflix.
WWE’s latest set of financial reports were revealed yesterday, with Vince McMahon and other company executives opening the lines for their Q3 2020 earnings call later in the day, bringing the news that a Netflix documentary series on the WWE Chairman is currently in the works.
This was referred to as a “groundbreaking deal,” and will have a budget far exceeding most documentaries on Netflix.
Director Chris Smith is the man behind Netflix’s 2019 Fyre Festival doc; he’ll serve as a director and producer here, working with WWE Studios. Bill Simmons of media outlet The Ringer will work as an executive producer on the project.
There’s no word on when production will commence the documentary or when it may air, though the project was confirmed by WWE President & Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan on the earnings call.
As one of the most interesting men on the planet, there’s probably enough material in Vince McMahon’s 75 years old planet earth to fill dozens of episodes here. Netflix and WWE won’t be short of material to cover, from his 50-plus years in the professional wrestling business, to the boom periods of the ‘80s and ‘90s, to his many controversies, and everything in between.
