Murphy's attempt at bridging WWE's logic gap in his scrapped storyline with the Mysterio family led to company officials ordering the SmackDown wrestler to delete an Instagram comment.

Speaking on the most recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE asked Murphy to get rid of his attempt at "shooting his own angle."

Murphy had posted the following in order to try and explain why he had reunited with Seth Rollins after his storyline with the Mysterios was quietly canned in late 2020:-

“Let’s point out the obvious! The Mysterio’s used me! I never needed them! I’m beyond one of the most talent in-ring performers on the planet! Aalyah used me to be on tv and advance an acting career. Dominik used me so he had a reason to stand ringside. Rey was jealous that I became the new face of the cruiserweight and he was left out of the discussion. They took what they wanted then they left me in the shadows! Sounds like my time in NXT.”

This was around three weeks ago, with the comment quickly deleted.

The Australian had been heavily involved with Rey, Dominik, and Aalyah after splitting with Rollins last year, though the entire storyline was dropped (including Murphy's romance with Aalyah) in December.

Murphy recently challenged Aleister Black to a match at WrestleMania 37, though it's unlikely that this will come to fruition.
