WWE Reveal Teams For SmackDown Tag Team Tournament
No surprises here.
Over this past weekend, SmackDown General Manager Paige announced in an awkwardly-shot social media post that the blue brand is to host a tag team tournament to determine the next challengers to The Bludgeon Brothers' double straps.
WWE revealed the competing quartets last night via another cringey Twitter video, and the names dropped come as no surprise whatsoever. The Bar, The New Day, Sanity, and The Usos will all battle it out for a shot at glory.
(We predicted three of the four yesterday, though with only about six teams on the show, it wasn't exactly difficult to guess who might comprise the bracket. Frankly, we should have done better.)
The competition is set to commence on this Tuesday's SmackDown, and will endure for the next three weeks. The eventual winners earn a tag team title shot at SummerSlam on 19 August, and given all this hoo-ha, they might even feature beyond the pre-show.
Sheamus and Cesaro have not wrestled on television since late May, but that ought not to stop them triumphing in the tournament and suddenly becoming champions again. The Usos, meanwhile, held the straps for a record 182 days before being deposed by the Brothers Bludgeon back in April. Sanity are the only team yet to taste main roster gold, having finally made their SmackDown debut two weeks ago after months of unusual absence.
