For many wrestling fans, it's that most wonderful time of the year where WWE's most anticipated PPV of the calendar year is nearly upon us.

Forget the glitz and glamour of WrestleMania. Forget the sizzle and spectacle of WrestleMania. To a good portion of the WWE universe, the most intriguing, must-see event of the year is the company's annual January extravaganza, the Royal Rumble.

Since its televised debut in 1988, the Royal Rumble event has proved to be a constant highlight for wrestling fans. Which its potential for so many shocks and surprises - from pop-inducing returns, to the drama of a left-field winner - the Rumble match itself is enough of a selling factor for many. Throw in a reputation for delivering other stellar non-Rumble match contests across the card over the years, and you can see why the Royal Rumble PPV is so eagerly looked forward to as every new year is ushered in.

Already, Daniel Bryan, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, AJ Styles, Riddle and Elias have thrown their hat into the ring and announced their entry into this year's men's Royal Rumble, but who will be joining these six names?

With the impending Royal Rumble due to take place on 31 January, what better time to look across the possibilities and potential surprises of which other 24 superstars will be filling out this year's men's Royal Rumble match.

24. Sheamus

While many thought that Sheamus was on a collision course with WWE Champion Drew McIntyre - possibly in a triple threat with Keith Lee - at the Royal Rumble, the return of Goldberg has seemingly put a spanner in the works on that front.

As such, mark the Celtic Warrior down as a major favourite for the men's Royal Rumble, with a match between him and McIntyre at WrestleMania 37 a strong possibility.
