Queen Zelina has revealed that Vince McMahon phoned and "must have apologised 30 times" the day after WWE's 11 September 2021 SmackDown show at Madison Square Garden.

The WWE boss wanted to make it clear that his decision to cut Zelina's match from the broadcast wasn't a personal one. He even said, "I would never do that to you" and invited Vega to his office that Friday for a face-to-face chat that'd clear the air.

Zelina told 'Cheap Heat' she'd been planning to pay tribute to her father's memory during the show. He had been tragically killed during the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001; 20 years on, performing in front of a New York crowd would've been a sentimental moment for Vega and her family.

WWE nixed her tag match from the program due to time constraints.

McMahon called Vega on 12 September and said sorry repeatedly. He hadn't realised how important that moment was to her, and was keen to "make this right". Zelina has since won the first Queen's Crown tournament and captured the Women's Tag-Team Titles alongside Carmella.

She told the podcast that she was satisfied with Vince's apology and pleased that he wanted to meet.
