WWE: Sting Still Hoping To Face The Undertaker At WrestleMania 30

By John Canton /

The ongoing saga of whether or not WWE will sign Sting continues. Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer reports that Sting himself is still hoping for a match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30 but WWE are stalling on finalising the contract offer they put to the legendary superstar some weeks ago. No-one doubts that WWE will eventually sign the deal and bring Sting in, but each day that has passed in February so far has brought him no closer to finally joining Vince McMahon's big league. Regarding WrestleMania, there have been some concerns internally that Taker's long-timed planned WM opponent Brock Lesnar, who makes big money for a limited amount of work and only has a certain number of dates on his contract, may not be willing to spend several extra days working with the Deadman to get the entire match worked out. That's an unknown at this point. One of the reasons the last several years of WM main events have been such classics has been Undertaker's desire to rehearse, rehearse and rehearse the bouts over and over again with his opponent at his house. Assuming Lesnar and Undertaker are friends, perhaps he would be willing to go the extra mile for Taker. After all, Undertaker is the most respected guy in WWE and I think Lesnar would be interested in making it the best match it could be. Since Sting lives in the Dallas area, he is of course willing to meet up with The Undertaker and work out the match in private at Undertaker's gym, no questions asked. But then the ball is completely in WWE's court in all areas of his future for WrestleMania and beyond. I think Sting's willingness to do the match beforehand will be something that WWE likes, but will he get the WrestleMania match with Undertaker? It doesn't seem likely. Lesnar seems like the more probable Undertaker opponent this year with everything in place. As for Sting, I don't expect him on the WrestleMania card. He could debut there as a surprise, put in a year's worth of work in WWE possibly as a GM of Raw and maybe wrestle a couple of matches in the year. Put him in the 2015 Hall of Fame. It would be a nice finish to a legendary career.
