WWE SummerSlam 2021 Heading To Madison Square Garden?
Is WWE heading to the World's Most Famous Arena for its summer spectacular?
A slip from Dave Meltzer on today's Wrestling Observer Radio suggests that WWE is considering Madison Square Garden as a potential location for SummerSlam 2021.
This came from a conversation between Meltzer and cohost Bryan Alvarez, who suggested that with AEW recently announcing its return to live, ticketed events, WWE may soon follow. Alvarez noted that WWE had pencilled in a date for SummerSlam but no location. To this, Meltzer said that he'd "heard Madison Square Garden," but immediately claimed he wasn't supposed to say that.
While the pay-per-view might not end up at MSG, Meltzer notes that it was at least under consideration.
WWE has a long, storied history with New York City and The World's Most Famous Arena, which played host to the first WrestleMania on 31 March 1985. The venue remained a semi-regular WWE stop-off over the next few decades until things slowed down in the 2010s, with Survivor Series 2011 the last company pay-per-view to go down there.
September 2019 brought WWE's last major visit to MSG, encompassing Raw, SmackDown, 205 Live, and Main Event tapings.
Per PWInsider, SummerSlam 2021 will take place on 22 August.
