WWE SummerSlam 2022: 10 Nightmares That Could Come True
Vince McMahon = WWE comeback king? Surely that won't happen at SummerSlam?!
As Alan Partridge once said, "It's evolution not revolution, because I evolve but I don't...revolve". That silly quote from a 1990s UK TV great might be a strange way to kick off an article looking at WWE nightmares in 2022, but there is a chance the company will rotate 360 degrees and end up right back where they were.
Excitement is high following the announcement that Triple H is in charge of WWE's creative team going forwards. However, it's unrealistic to expect that 'The Game' will be able to change everything completely in time for SummerSlam.
The man will need a few months (at least) to properly implement visible changes.
Top nightmares on tap for Saturday night include an unlikely comeback, WWE pressing the repeat button from last year's SummerSlam in one of the major title bouts, Trips thinking that Jeff Jarrett would be a fine replacement for Adam Pearce, and the resumption of a feud that literally just wrapped up.
Anyone going into the weekend hoping WWE will magically appear fresh might be disappointed. Temper those expectations, then start chewing your fingernails over these possible booking scenarios.
10. Judgment Day Continue Spiralling
Sincere congrats go out to Rey Mysterio for being such a wonderful performer this deep into his pro wrestling career. Sometimes, when he's feeling it and in the heat of battle, Rey legit turns the clock back to the 1990s, and that's amazing for a 47-year old who's had serious knee injuries.
Rey Rey still shouldn't win at SummerSlam though.
WWE could kill off Judgment Day for good if they put Rey and Dominik over Finn Bálor and Damian Priest this weekend. The group definitely dropped down a level when Bálor replaced Edge anyway, and they've been fairly ineffective ever since that moment.
Staring at the lights for Mysterio and his boy would be another misstep for Finn and cronies. Judgment Day must start picking up momentum-boosting wins regularly or risk becoming this generation's version of Ministry backups like Mideon and Viscera.
No, no that would not be a good thing. Not even close.
