WWE TLC 2018: Becky Lynch Vs. Charlotte Vs. Asuka To Main Event
SmackDown Women's title match will make history.
During her pre-show interview with Sarah Schreiber, Becky Lynch let slip that her SmackDown Women's title match against Asuka and Charlotte Flair will indeed main event tonight's TLC 2018 pay-per-view.
Though this isn't the first time a women's match has headlined a major WWE event - Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte's Hell in a Cell broke that ground back in 2016 - it is the first to do so on a dual branded show. Obviously, this does not include Evolution, WWE's all-women PPV from back in October.
With Universal Champion Brock Lesnar absent from TLC, it always seemed a distinct possibility the SmackDown trio could make history this Sunday in San Jose. The fact it has been given the nod ahead of the supremely tasty Daniel Bryan vs. AJ Styles WWE title match is massively significant for the company's burgeoning women's division, not to mention a huge vote of confidence for breakout star Becky Lynch.
Five years ago, the thought of a women's title match headlining a WWE PPV seemed light years away. That it's here so soon - and not especially surprising - demonstrates just how far we've come. Long may it continue.
