WWE Wrestlemania 28 To Feature Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Brock Lesnar?

Is Austin and Lesnar's trash talking over twitter a work to setup a potential dream match at next year's Wrestlemania?

With Brock Lesnar recently striking a deal with the WWE to be featured as a playable character in their upcoming game WWE '12 (this despite him working in another sport for the last several years), the door seems well and truly open for a wrestling comeback in the near future. It's something that both sides see as beneficial; WWE owner Vince McMahon because he is always looking for a big marquee star for each year's Wrestlemania extravaganza (and this year has one in The Rock vs. John Cena dream match) and Lesnar because he is interested in the large pay-off and it will boost his image. Over the years Vince and Lesnar have spoken about a comeback match but nothing has come off and he still hasn't wrestled in the WWE since Wrestlemania XX when a truly terrible match with Goldberg (also his last at the company) was overshadowed by fans turning their back on both departing wrestlers and cheering for Stone Cold Steve Austin as the referee. Now Lesnar has told ESPN.com in a recent interview that it's Stone Cold Steve Austin he would most want to wrestle in a comeback match; EPSN: Do you ever think you will go back and have one last WWE match?
Brock Lesnar: I think I will. I think under the right circumstances I will. I think if Vince McMahon and I were able to sit down at the same dinner table and break some bread that we could come up with some kind of game plan. At the end of the day, I€™m an ultimate fighter. That€™s who I am and that€™s who I€™ll always be. I was an entertainer but at the end of the day, I€™m still as real as it gets. I think a lot of things have to fall in the right places for something like that to happen.
And asked specifically who he would like to wrestle...
"That€™s Stone Cold Steve Austin. I worked with everybody and anybody that was anybody there and if I came back, I think the guy that I would come back to fight is Stone Cold Steve Austin.€Lesnar said that Austin was €œdownright scared€ to get in the ring with him as he was on top and saw him as a huge threat so the guy €œtook his ball and went home.€
Of course Stone Cold and Brock Lesnar have a long and troubling history going back to the days after Wrestlemania 18 in 2002 when Brock Lesnar was to be introduced onto the scene and Austin refused to job for him early on saying he wouldn't lie down for 'a rookie'. Austin would leave the company for a lengthy hiatus after that and Lesnar would become one of the biggest marquee stars they had. So almost a full decade on, will Austin be willing to work with him now in a match... indeed his ONLY match since Wrestlemania 19 in 2003? The Rattlesnake responded on twitter;
'So @DCBROCKLESNAR was talking trash about me€very interesting... Gonna finish my beverage and mull this one over."
Then later;
"this @DCBROCKLESNAR thing is winding me up a bit€relax€.breath€relax€breathe€.no use..to be continued..€
The words 'to be continued' come across as very interesting. Of course recently Austin has been talking up a possible future match with CM Punk as a special one-off Wrestlemania match but an Austin/Lesnar has more drawing power (especially coming from the UFC world) and would tear the house down. They don't need such a marquee match as The Rock vs. John Cena will dominate the event this year in Miami but certainly Wrestlemania 29 would work. I just wonder if this is a work and WWE/Austin/Lesnar are building towards something? If nothing else we know Lesnar spoke to WWE recently... interesting.
