WWE's Rob Gronkowski Returning To The NFL
What does this mean for the prestigious 24/7 Championship?!
Rob Gronkowski is on his way back to the NFL.
Adam Schefter of ESPN broke the news yesterday, confirming that Gronk was coming out of his footballing retirement to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he'll reconnect with former New England Patriots teammate Tom Brady, having been traded on Tuesday. Big news, though it raises questions on the 30-year-old's WWE status.
The move comes little over a month after Gronkowski officially signed with WWE. The NFL tight end has since made a handful of appearances, most notably at WrestleMania 36, where he became 24/7 Champion while featuring as the show's host.
WWE tweeted the following last night:-
Gronkowski's best friend, Mojo Rawley, had the following to say:-
While only WWE, Gronkowski, and those close to the situation are privy to the details of Gronk's wrestling contract, the story sparked shock when it broke on Tuesday. It is expected that he will work at least one or two proper matches (not just 24/7 tilts), though his pro-wrestling career will be put on hold as soon as preparations for the next NFL season kick into gear.
Expect a vignette featuring Rawley pinning Gronk for the belt by week's end, then.
