WWE's WrestleMania 40 Main Event Thrown Into DOUBT After Raw

Cody Rhodes, The Rock, CM Punk... who should occupy the Head of the Table?

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson returned to last night's WWE Raw as Triple H's promised "former WWE Champion" last night - and threw the WrestleMania 40 main event scene into a blender in the process.

Technically, Jinder Mahal was the ex-WWE Champion to return, doing so after a repeat of Triple H's weekend tweet and an introduction from the announcers. WWE used 'The Modern Day Maharaja' as a ruse, however, with The Rock running Mahal down, beating him up, and standing tall in a very loud, very over segment.

Johnson grabbed a microphone again after dispensing with Jinder. He then dropped the most overt tease for the long-awaited Rock vs. Roman Reigns dream match yet, saying that when he went out to eat in San Diego, CA that night, he would sit at the Head of the Table.

The move has prompted speculation on WWE's WrestleMania 40 main event plans. When Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WM39, it was assumed that 'The American Nightmare' would defeat Roman in a WM40 rematch. CM Punk has since returned to WWE, installing himself as a main event contender (though he is already eyeing a program with World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins) - and now The Rock has done the same.

Reigns vs. Rock has been speculated for years, with rumours swirling particularly strongly over the past couple. Rhodes, however, remains WWE's strongest in-house babyface, with Punk's comeback still only a handful of appearances old.
