10 Most Brutal Murders The Joker Has Ever Committed

Best avoid this one if you're squeamish.

The Joker may not be the strongest villain in comics, but he sure is the sickest. Whenever you think you have seen him at his worst, The Clown Prince of Crime manages to one up himself with something so twisted it would make the Devil blush.

Even during his first appearance, the killer wasted no time and murdered multiple people over his eleven-page debut. Over the years that followed, The Joker kept up his fearful reputation and these days, he can do nothing to shock us. Yet the lack of surprise doesn't help readers feel any less nauseous when he kills his own mother or literally melts Batman's face off.

The most terrifying thing about the character is that, because he isn't superpowered, he has to come up with highly elaborate ways of hurting his victims. Yet, they always have some sense of realism to them. The idea that a man could think up such depraved acts is almost scarier than the acts themselves, and it's that fear that gives him control over others.

However, not everyone likes to fall in line. This means The Clown Prince of Crime has had to make regular examples of those who would dare wrong him. For those unlucky victims, they experience the full horror that The Joker can unleash.

10. "Merry Christmas"

Towards the end of the No Man's Land arc back in 1999, the Joker was feeling extra festive, and decided to give Batman an early gift. However, it's not exactly in his nature to give something without a catch.

Now, a scavenger hunt could be a fun gift when given the right amount of thought, but this was anything but fun. Joker had kidnapped and hidden a bunch of babies. Not only that, but he had each possible location rigged with traps and explosives.

As news of his location gets to the team, only Sarah Essen is at the correct place. She figures there is no time to wait for backup and heads down to the basement to confront Joker alone.

She finds him holding a baby, while surrounded by countless other children. In order to escape the scene, Joker throws the baby in the air and causes Sarah to drop her gun as she tries to catch the child. Joker points his gun at Sarah and wishes her a merry Christmas before pulling the trigger.

Even the Clown Prince realises he has gone too far. As he gives himself up to the police, his face appears to show a rare feeling of pure regret.
